I think, Aamir took some 4 categories of students .. took some samples from them, studied their genes and reproduced them perfectly. He concentrated on everything about these categories of students.. clothes they wear , hair style , attitude, nature , their frds..etc.. Brilliant!!
Every one will experience the college environment in those 2 and half yrs. Its a great experience altogether. Some phrases which are still running in my ears even after 5 hrs..'All is well' ,'Don't chase success, chase excellence'. About a gadha ( Bride groom) -' bladdy- he will do Engineering and after that an MBA, then he will work in a Bank at US. what a stupid logic '. ' if you are always worried about future, where is the time to focus on today'. ' bindi 1 kg - Rs 12' ,many more like this.....also, there are quite a lot of scenes which are hilarious..esp the "Teacher's Day speech by a South Indian " and " 3 idiots entering an unknown marriage"
Story revolves between ...3 students and their families dream about their career, one college director and his beautiful daughter, and a south Indian chomu.
As usual the hero is a cool guy. no body can do ragging( he escapes cleverly), he asks good sensible questions to professors, the director of the college gets pissed of with him but at the same time he falls in love with his daughter, he is also the topper of the batch. ..huh..done.
2nd frd , a confused Eng. Student (Madhavan ) struggles inbetween his interests in Photography and his father's dream of making his son a Engineer. 3rd frd, a poor guy(sharman) with lot of family obligations (like 80's unemployed graduate ) struggles for every thing in college because of not having self belief. The Diro, he has irrelevant rules, inhuman in his approach hates all these 3.
The daughter, who is supposed to marry a US return. South Indian Chomu, he always wants to be 1st, can do anything for marks and releases silencers.

Costumes and Appearance......Aamir with the help of a huge belly from Madhavan relatively looks young. He reduced his weight (from Ghajini). Kareena had her worst makeup in last 5 years in this movie (some remedy was done in the songs) . Even when she was 12 Kgs heavier in Don she was looking good. Very recent Kurbaan - she was awesome.
Delhi, IIM - Bangalore , Simla, manali , Ladakh ....you will travel a lot in this movie.
How screwed is our expectations from Students ... same old concept shown with the help of Chetan Bhagat's 5. some one. Some scenes makes us remember Munnabhai MBBS (Raj Kumar Hirani's earlier work ) and Taare Zameen Par.
