Must Watch Vijay Movies

Vijay, probably the second most famous hero in Tamil Nadu after Rajni is definetly a great hero to watch. Likely to take the position of Rajni once he leave the Industry. I like Vijay movies for action, fantasy and dance. According to me the best dancer-cum-hero in Tamil Industry. I liked most of the Vijay movies during a period in which Vijay acted Kaadhalukku Mariyaathai, Thulladha Mannum Thullum but then slowly he started taking audience for granted or he selected only masala movies. But now offlate I think he is coming back with some good set of movies like Thupakki.

Below are the Top 10 Vijay movies according to me who is neither a core Vijay fan or Vijay basher.

1. Thupakki

Year      : 2012
Direction : A.R. Murugadoss
Actors    : Kajal Agarwal, Sathyan, Vidyut Jamwal

One of the best action movies ever released in Tamil cinema

2. Kaadhalukku Mariyaadhai

Year      :1997
Direction : Fazil
Actors    : Shalini (Debut)
Music     : Illayaraja (Special mention :) )

Created a wave in 1997 with the songs and kind of love story.EVen today the songs are heard by music lovers

Year     : 2000
Direction: SJ Surya
Actor    : Jyothika

Simple love story showing ego between them. Superb Screenplay. I could say "Kushi" started a trend in Tamil cinema of using double meaning dialogues deliberately in movies.

4. Thulladha Manamum Thullum

Year      : 1999
Direction : Ezhil
Actors    : Simran

The best emotional climax in Vijay movies till date. Slow moving love story and good songs.

5. Gilli

Year      : 2004
Direction: Dharani
Actor     : Thrisha, Prakash Raj

Fast paced action movie remade in Tamil from Telugu movie Okkudu. " Appadi Podu" song created a sensation not only in Tamil Nadu but also throughout India. Even today every DJ party in India gives 3 min for this song.

Year       : 2007
Direction : Prabhu Deva
Actor      : Asin

I would recommend Pokiri for any movie lover across the globe. Originally from Telugu, this movie deserves a remake in Tamil and Vijay was right in grasping the opportunity as usual.

7. Poove Unakaaga

Year     : 1996
Direction : Vikraman
Actor     : Sangeetha, Anju Aravind

Tamil cinema which was not ready to recognize Vijay even after 14 movies as hero, turned towards Vijay from this movie. Came 18 years back but still fresh

Year      : 1998
Direction : Vincent Selva
Actors    : Kausalya

Brave attempt by Vijay to do a negative role. When I recollect this movie , I think why Vijay dont have the guts to take risk nowadays when he had that much during late 90's

9. Kaavalan

Year      : 2011
Direction : Siddique
Actor     : Asin

Based on Bodyguard from Malayalam. I feel Vijay did a better job than the original hero. Also, Kaavalan gave Vijay a much needed Hit when 4-5 of his movies didnt do well at box office.

10.Nanban

Year       : 2012
Direction : Shankar
Acor        : Srikanth and Jeeva

Based on "3 Idiots" one of the best movies ever made in Indian cinema history, Nanban with a Tamil flavour is good to watch. But if you know Hindi, better watch " 3 idiots "

Jilla Movie Review

Year : 2014
Cast : Vijay, Mohanlal, Kajal Agarwal
Director : Jeevan

Yesterday Veeram and today Jilla. Both are mindless masala movies. In the process of giving overall entertainment both the movies become so much ordniary and nothing new. While the story is good and Director had good scope for a superb movie, Jilla's script was bit too long and very average. The story was set when we go for the Interval and from that point screen play become usual.

Shivan is a Big Don and Shakthi his adopted son. Unlike normal Don story who has a another Don in the same city, this story is different and good. But the screenplay is boring and did not keep you engaged.

Positives :  Both Vijay and Mohanlal are postives to the movie who tried their level best to do justice to the script. Songs are better but the easily the director could have avoided one or two songs. Vijay's charismatic looks are getting better and better with his age, especially the dance performaces by both Vijay and Kajal are good. Unusual Don story.

Negatives : Average or slightly bad screenplay. Though we know it is a masala movie, even there we expect some logical twists. I felt the twists should have had more logic. Very long second half.

Mindless Masala entertainer.

Rating : 6 out of 10.

Veeram Movie review

Shirt white, Dhoti white, Hair white, dhaadi white...whito white !!! Good watchable masala movie for the weekend. Mostly saved by comedy and action sequences.

Year : 2014
Cast  : Ajith, Thamanna, Santhanam
Direction : Siva

Jilla or Veeram, Veeram or Jilla. Seems its the first time in 7 years Vijay and Ajith movies are getting released on same day. Somehow because of an Ajith Fan in our group we selected Veeram. Jilla may be tomorrow. Dont know who is the winner yet..

Positives :

There were lot of good surprises when compared to recent Ajith movies. Village subject itself is something new. Good comedy track by Santhanam and Thambi Ramaiah. I could not imagine any recent Ajith movie which had good comedy. Another surprise is about those 3 Action sequences. Really good action with the back ground music and camera shakings. Another good thing was Ajith had fewer punch dialogues :) which were good. Few scenes were class or mass. Lastly the moving script without any slowed parts. I liked the movie since it had an overall masala entertainment with a story.

Negatives :

If those 4 songs could have removed things would have been better. Those songs were just Ajith's tummy revealers and Tamanna exposers :P The well kept secret tummy inside loose white shirt and dhoti were unneccasarily revealed during songs. In few scenes Ajith had enough physical appearance to act as father/uncle for Tamanna.

Good village masala action movie

Rating : 6.5/10
